How Georgia Responded to Coronavirus
The first Corona Virus case appeared in Georgia late February and without hesitation the Government put some policies in place to attack the spread of the virus, among them were social distance, closing non essential shops, and a state of emergency which meant everybody must be at home from 9pm to 6am, anybody caught outside within this time would pay a fine of 3000 GEL, Equivalent to $1000.
Living through the Pandemic
The policies continued through out march and April. Using advanced internet technology, the Government was able to switch most of its physical activities to online and this was also adopted by most Government and private owned companies. All these drastically reduced the spread of the virus.
How the Georgia Government supported the people.
The Government did not only place a strict restriction but also supported the welfare of everybody in the country by sharing over 2.1 Billion GEL (Equivalent to $700 million) to individuals and also by paying Utility Bills for everybody in the country.
In just 2 months, Georgia became one of the best countries in the world that handled the pandemic very well, The US Government and EU commended Georgia for its remarkable success in containing the Virus. Georgia was also listed on the Washingtonpost as one of the 6 countries the world needs to study when it comes to Coronavirus response. As at now, there are no restrictions in Georgia!
How does this affect students
The virus does not in any way affect the process of studying in Georgia, Admission for September is still ongoing for International students. Georgia is also considered to be one of the safest countries right now.
